About the association

How we started

Association Banzart El Baya was founded in Bizerte in 2011 by students and teachers who were tired of waiting. The northernmost city in Africa has a young population, a long coastline and no shortage of people willing to work — what it lacked was somewhere to organise from. So we made one.

Our registered name is جمعية بنزرت البيّة للشباب والتنمية والمواطنة — the Bizerte El Baya Association for Youth, Development and Citizenship. Those three words are not a slogan chosen later. They are in the legal name, they are on the emblem, and they decide what we take on.

What we actually do

Free training for 16 to 30 year-olds. Food and school-kit support for families who need it. Coastal and Ichkeul-area environmental work. Micro-grants for women running businesses from home. Civic-education evenings where the municipal budget is read out line by line.

None of it is delivered by staff. The association has no salaried employees and no paid board. All of it is done by volunteers who fit it around their own jobs and studies.

How we work

Three commitments shape everything, and they are the ones we would want to be judged against.

We publish what things cost. Every project page carries its budget, its partners and its measured result — including the projects that did not work.

We answer within a week. Volunteer applications, partnership enquiries, complaints. A week, every time.

We stay where we are. We work in the Bizerte governorate and nowhere else. Better to do one city properly than a country badly.

Who decides

Members elect the board at the annual general assembly, where the accounts are put to a vote. Minutes and audited statements are published afterwards whatever they say. If you want to check us before you trust us, that is the page to read.
